🤔 Questions people ask
Is Spanish hard to learn?
Not for English speakers. It's spelt the way it sounds, loads of words look like English ones, and you can say useful things after a few days. Verbs take longer, but you can chat long before you've mastered them.
Should I learn Spain Spanish or Latin American Spanish?
Either is fine, they understand each other perfectly well. I teach Spain Spanish, the Spanish you'll hear on holiday in Spain and in most UK schools.
Is this Spanish hub free?
Yes. The guides, flashcards and games on this page are free to use, no sign-up.
Do you teach Spanish lessons?

ℹ️ About Spain Spanish
The quick facts, in plain English.
🇪🇸 Why Spain Spanish?
It's the Spanish you'll hear on holiday in Spain, and the one most UK schools teach. It's what I teach too. Latin American Spanish is just as good, and the two understand each other fine. The main differences are a few words, the "th" sound and vosotros.
👥 Tú, usted and vosotros
- tú: "you" to one person. Friendly, and in Spain you'll use it with nearly everyone.
- usted: polite "you", for older people you don't know or formal situations.
- vosotros: "you lot", talking to a group of friends. Used in Spain, not in Latin America.

🗺️ Other languages in Spain
Spanish (castellano) is spoken everywhere, but some regions have their own language too: Catalan in Catalonia, Valencia and the Balearic Islands, Basque in the Basque Country and Galician in Galicia. You'll see them on signs.
🎉 Bits of culture
- Late meals: lunch from about 2pm and dinner from about 9pm 🍽️
- Tapas: small plates to share with a drink. Order a few and keep going 🥘
- Las uvas: at midnight on New Year's Eve you eat 12 grapes, one on each chime 🍇
- Los Reyes (6 January): the Three Kings bring the presents, so for kids it's a second Christmas 👑
- La Tomatina: a huge tomato fight in Buñol, near Valencia, every August 🍅
